I Don’t Want to Be Pregnant. Is Abortion My Only Option?
Learning that you are unexpectedly pregnant when you don’t want to be can feel like your world has been turned upside down. You might be wondering what this means for your future and what options are available to you.
At The Cline Center, we want you to know that we are here for you during this period. We can provide you with free pregnancy testing and a limited ultrasound, as well as a safe and confidential space to talk and learn about your other options.
You don’t have to handle this by yourself. Schedule an appointment at our center today.
Confirm Your Pregnancy First
Before making any pregnancy decision, the next important step is confirming your pregnancy with a limited ultrasound.
This is because, although a pregnancy test confirms the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), it doesn’t provide the medical information needed to understand how the pregnancy is developing.
A limited ultrasound at our clinic can determine your gestational age (how far along you are), where the pregnancy is located, and whether the pregnancy appears to be developing.
This information can help identify whether a miscarriage may have already occurred or whether you may have an ectopic pregnancy, which requires immediate medical attention.
Understand Your Other Options
Abortion can feel like the only choice if you don’t want to be pregnant, but you do have other options, including adoption and parenting.
Each option comes with responsibilities and considerations. Taking time to learn about them can help you make a more informed and confident decision about your pregnancy.
The abortion pill is FDA-approved through ten weeks of gestation and carries side effects and risks that are important to understand.
What Parenting Could Look Like
Parenting can feel like an impossible choice if you are still in school, worried about finances, or perhaps aren’t in a stable relationship. These concerns are understandable.
However, much more support is available than you may realize. Community referrals can help connect you with housing, financial assistance, and other local resources. We offer education and practical resources at The Cline Center, including our material aid boutique, where you can access baby supplies and parenting and life skill classes.
Considering Adoption
Adoption is by no means an easy decision, but it may be an option to consider if you want to continue your pregnancy and do not feel ready to parent.
Modern adoption now gives you more control over how much contact you want to have with your child.
You can choose open, semi-open, or closed adoption plans. Adoption services are provided at no cost to the birth parent, and many adoption agencies also cover pregnancy-related medical expenses and other eligible costs.
If you are interested in learning more, we can connect you with a reputable, licensed adoption agency that can explain the process and answer your questions.
