Pregnancy and My Career: Can I Have Both?

A positive pregnancy test can feel like a life altering crisis when you’re succeeding in your career or just working a job you need to work! Though it may feel like it right now, you need to know that the dreams and plans that you’ve made for yourself do not have to come to an end just because you got this news. You’ve worked hard to get where you are. Even though it may seem like everything has to change, there are options and resources available to anyone who is pregnant amid a career.

You can do this

Today’s world embraces pregnancy and new moms in a way that we haven’t seen before. From clothing to access, you can find support. It’s not surprising to find companies who make exceptions or offer extensions for pregnant women. Normal pregnancy distractions like doctor’s appointments or morning sickness are expected, and the public is willing to make space for you to take care of yourself. Pregnancy doesn’t have to get in the way of your plans, you can still accomplish your goals.

You’re not alone

According to a recent New York Times report, there are 2.7 million single mothers in the U.S., and they are taking the job force by storm. Since 2015 the number of single moms in the workforce has risen by four percent. Local policies such as paid leave and better wages are paving the way for women to take that leap. With state funded childcare, women can find a reliable source of income as well as a reliable place to keep their child during work hours. Not to mention, working from home has become so much more common since the COVID pandemic.

The most important thing any pregnant woman can do is surround herself with friends, family and a group of people who can support you and help you through an unexpected pregnancy. You are not alone. No fear is too big, no question is too small. You don’t have to do this by yourself.
